Export and Import Analysis of Polypropylene.
Industry news / 2018-07-24

1) Import analysis:
According to customs statistics, China's imports of polypropylene have steadily declined in recent years, and the dependence on imports has been reduced year by year. In 2017, China's import dependence on PP was 18.1 %(see Figure 3). However, the structural imbalance between the supply and demand of polypropylene still exists, and the contradiction between the excess of general-purpose materials and the high dependence of high-end materials on imports will continue to coexist for a long time. In 2017, the lower reaches of the domestic polypropylene market were affected by environmental protection factors. Low value-added industries such as molding were rich in downturn, while industries such as high-rigid injection molding and high-melting finger fiber developed well, prompting the import of some high-end polypropylene raw materials.

2)Export analysis:
Thanks to the continuous increase in China's capacity expansion, China's total export volume of polypropylene from 2012 to 2017 will be increasing. By 2017, the export volume will reach 340,000 tons. China's main export destination for polypropylene is Southeast Asia, which has a large production capacity gap. With Vietnam as its representative, China's exports to Vietnam accounted for 42.3 % in 2017, ranking first. Followed by Thailand and Indonesia. In 2018, the expansion of capacity in Southeast Asia is limited, and China's export market may continue its current pattern.

From 2013 to 2016, China had a single export variety of polypropylene with a small overall base. In 2017, the polypropylene export market showed more positive performance. Taking primary polypropylene(HS: 39021000) as an example, the cumulative export of 296,000 tons, an increase of 23.42 % over the same period of last year, but the export products are still dominated by low-end general-purpose goods, of which the proportion of wire materials is more than 70 %.
